Thanked: 5ARGH!
Ok, I have a TI and a dovo. They both came honed, and I have used the TI since late Aug and the dovo for about 3 weeks now. I am having trouble with them cutting me and they are shaving worth a damn. So I figured its time to hone.
On that note, I have a black hard Arkansas stone, will that work for quick touch ups? I need want to get water stones but money is pretty tight right now.
Thanks

Thanked: 13249Was going to say, the only way to know is to try, but you figured that out already...
Arkies are of course a Natural stone and they vary quite a bit, and not only the stone varies but how the surface of the stone is presented can make a huge difference too... Before I found SRP and caught every AD there is, I used just one Arkansas stone to maintain my two razors for over 20 years...

I was always under the impression that they did a poor job on straights. I'll have to look at them more closely before I get something to touch up mine.

The only thing I don't like about an Arkansas is that they cut so awfully slow...

I too used an Arkie for many years( a surgical black to be exact) and still use it from time to time. When you learn how to use it right, it can leave an amazing edge on razors. Especially on harder American steel. They are slow though, so patience is required.

Dunno'; what is it?
EDIT: The Chinese "12k" one? Yah, it works well too but I don't enjoy hundreds of laps to get a finished edge. I'd sell it if I hadn't sold it already. I'd probably sell the pink Arkansas if it hadn't been owned by my Grandfather. Sentimental value.Last edited by Sticky; 11-02-2011 at 03:09 AM. Reason: oops
