I guess I never did set the record straight on this one. He doesn't use any sort of strop paste during the process. All of his strops were clean leather, no strop paste in sight, or mentioned.

I forgot to tell everyone that I scored a 2" SRD strop at this very knife shop today. It has only been used once and I paid $40. I think original price was $50 or $60, so I'm pretty happy about that! The gentleman said a woman bought it and a straight razor as a gift for her husband, but he wasn't interested, so she sold it to him.

Pasted strops are a common solution.
I think it is Dovo that sells a set of four diamond pastes
and sells a four sided stick strop that some folk report
    great success with.

Pasted stick strops work very well for a personal
set of razors. I suspect they are not given their
due because stick strops load up with swarf
and unlike a rock are hard to clean.

I have a leather strop glued to oak with 8000 grit
on split leather and it does put a polish on kitchen
knives. Since I also have very fine hone rocks
I do not use the grit on leather hone for razors.
    Perhaps I should...

Yeah, it's Lorenz cutlery on 300 South. If you need any help or advice getting started just send me a PM, I even have some loaner razors and strop, if you're so inclined. Welcome.

Im actually familiar with L. Lorenze. I used to live 1/2 block away when they were on 4th south. I had purchased a few knifes from there. Heard the old guy passed away and the shop went to hell though.

Id appreciate any help you could offer! Perhaps a meetup for coffee is in order.

Can a strong drink like coffee be had in Salt Lake City? I mean with the numbers of Latter Day Saints members there, I thought it might be as hard to find as a long time SRP member with only ONE blade...

There are not a lot of coffee shops here, compared to most places, but those that do exist are typically quite good.

Agreed. Our local brewers, bars, and restaurants have really been increasing in quality and number the past few years as well. Yahoo!

Chay my honing gear is ordered and on it's way. Perhaps we could get a few SLC members together and do a mini meetup?
