It depends on what you mean by dull and the quality of the stones. If they are known brands of stones and the razor was usable and is just starting to pull, then it is possible. If the razor is a wedge with a visible flat spot...you better have a LOT of time. If the stones have inclusions, improperly marked grit or are small I doubt it possible. Remember, they also have to be properly lapped as well.

Anything is possible. The real question is "is it advisable to try it?". As mentioned above, a lot depends on where the razor's edge is at.

The only way you are going to find out is to try it for yourself and see if those two stones meet your honing needs. If they do not then you will have to get some more stones in the appropriate grit ranges. However, as it stands at the moment, the only person who can really answer your question is you. We can only really speculate.

You will need a lower grit hone to bevel set and sharpen the blade. 8-12K is for polishing something that is already sharpened. You can sharpen on a high grit stone but it may take you 12 yrs...lol.

Most would initially use a 1K for bevel setting as a starter since it's fast. originally I only had a Norton 4K/8K and used the 4 to set many a bevel it just takes longer as will your 5K.
