Thanked: 433Arkansas Oil Stone Experiments
I got my miscellaneous Ark stones out to see if I could go from dull to shave ready using only them and light oil, here's the gear:
Non dis-script soft Ark far right, vertical center Smith Tri-hone, Translucent (with razor)
I didn't count laps so these are best guesses until the last no pressure 30
I started with the soft Ark, probably 50 1/2 x's/side, 50 circles/side, 30 x-strokes
moved to the medium stone on the tri-hone and did the same as above (it now cuts arm hair full length)
moved to the fine stone on the tri-hone and did basically the same as above with less pressure (now very sharp)
moved to the translucent and did probably 100 light 1/2 x strokes side and 50 circles/side, then cleaned and applied new oil and did 30 x-strokes with almost no pressure.
then 20 laps CrOx paddle and 50 linen/ 60 leather. It passes HHT and tree tops arm hair.
The shave was about an 9 out of 10!! I probably won't do this again, but was an interesting experiment

I shaved off of a sugical black arkie for years. With practice they can give an edge that will rival the other finishers. Problem is they require at least twice the patience of other hones.
