    Default nice honing session today

Played with four razors today. A Kropp that I got on e-bay a few years ago and had been honing taped on 1K Norton, A Shumate barber razor from a few years ago and a "Vicnet" razor that I got last month for 5$ Then a Revonah that I used to shave with and learned honing on. The Kropp took a little while on 1k to convert back to an untaped bevel. I was surprised by how long that took. Then I did 4k and 8k to a nice polish. The Vicnet I honed on a black stone from Tony Miller. I started with a milky slurry then did many strokes while periodically diluting, until finally washing of the stone and doing lot's of strokes on plain water. Interesting appearance of the bevel under magnification. The Shumate required only some strokes on 8k to polish it. There is some hint of a "double bevel" under magnification, yet blade seems very polished all the way to the end so I did not return to lower grit. I love the grind on the shumate, very hollow and light. The bevel on the revonah needed a very slight adjustment. Several strokes on 4k made even scratches heel to toe and top to bottom, though narrower in some spots than others mimicking the wear pattern on the spine.

All in all a very nice session today. I'm learning alot and almost ready to work on some nicer razors.

Congrats - sounds like you had one of those memorable days on the stones that we're all lusting for when things get a little tougher than we'd like. Thanks for sharing..
