Default Someone who knows what they are doing

    Hey all,

Just wanted to reinforce the benefits of getting a more experienced member to do some honing to use as a benchmark for your own attempts.

I just got two razors back from Peter (bg42) and got the best shave I've ever had . It's certainly raised the bar for me and gives me some razors to shave with while I keep on learning with my others.

    Thanks Peter!

    Peter,

I agree, I thought I was getting my razors sharp and having good shaves until I got one from Joe (yes that crazy avitar guy). I've now sent two of my other razors to him so that I have a benchmark to work on.

Now that I know what sharp is I can work on duplicating it.

But you see you thought your razors were sharp before and now that you have experienced sharper razors you think you have the cat's meow in sharpness but do you really? How can you really know the ultimate in sharpness? What are your benchmarks for a sharp razor. Are you like the blind men who feel different parts of an elephant and think they know what they are feeling? My point here is that rather than compare different levels in shaving comfort you should establish benchmarks for what a truly good shave should feel like. Once you have an absolute scale you will experience shaving nirvana.

An absolute scale for sharpness? Whew! the Holy Grail. I wish that were possible to develop but so far no one has ever succeeded. All of us will just have to continue trying, developing our skill's along the way and eventually deciding for ourselves just what type of edge suits us the best.
