Default Daft question about a Rolls hone

Hello all, apologies if this has already been covered or is just too silly for words. I have a Rolls Razor and the hone is in great shape. Here's my question. If I was to remove the hone from the case could it be used as a barber's hone on straights every 10 shaves or so just to touch up the edge? Decent barber's hones seem hard to find in the UK at a decent price, I was wondering if I could save some money using something I already have. I love the idea of using a barber's hone for quick touch ups to bring my edges back to life without getting my stones out but don't own one...

Has anybody tried this or do you think it's worth having a go? Best left alone? My experience with the Rolls is the blades get to a point where they don't shave well just using the hone and strop enclosed, I take the blade out and hone on my proper stones. I've only done this once so far. That got me thinking it might be similar to a barber's hone that just maintains it between shaves but needs real maintenance every so often. Any advice would be appreciated if it saves me money and means I can try something I haven't done before!

    Cheers, Chad

There's nothing wrong with using it, they're just sort of narrow and thin. If you want to use it, glue it to a block of wood or something to keep it away from your fingers a bit .... you're going to want those later.

They are thin, aren't they! Was planning on putting it on a piece of wood with some non slip mat so I wouldn't need to permanently mount it and risk cracking it if I wanted to put it back in the Rolls. Are they similar to a barber's hone in use then?

I think, that they're much like a barber hone. Consider putting it on wood with some removeable adhesive, little adhesive pads would work nicely.

Mate, thanks for the info. I don't normally ask about things like this, I just have a go and see what happens. I just wanted to make sure they're similar to a barber's hone before trying. Big thumbs up for taking the time to answer my questions!

There are no daft questions, but there are some daft answers.
