It's a fascinating thought and I agree it's likely a bad idea. As you are already planning to send her out I'm quite anxious to hear of the results. Personally for my between honing sessions I use a pasted piece of an old leather coat that was headed to the junk pile. It works great to keep my edge keen and didn't cost anything but the time and paste which is rather inexpensive.

I believe the surface finish on ceramics is crucial as to what effect you have.
There was a time when some of us experimented using Spyerco UF's as finishers. They are a fairly low grit & identical to the Spydie F but finished differently. I kinda doubt a ceramic steel will be polished as fine but you can tell us your resultsThe white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

I love how so many of the responses are: "That's a very bad idea. You should do it and tell us how it went."
Ok, here is my plan:
1) Clean ceramic
2) Shave
3) 5 strokes with little pressure, toward the blade, on ceramic.
4) Strop the begeebers out of the SR.
5) See what difference it made.
5a) Made a difference:
5a1) Good difference? Should I do more or leave it alone?
5a2) Bad difference? Don't worry about Christmas rush, just send to Lynn.
5b) Made no difference: Repeat
Thoughts?

Thanked: 48Sounds very smart to me. There is a chance it is the next great thing. Never know until you try. Either way it was an education.

Well, I gave it a go and I am happy to report no ambulance was needed.
1) 10 strokes each side on the ceramic.
2) Lay strop flat on counter.
3) 40 strokes on the linnen.
4) 120 strokes on the leather.
It now glides nicely across my face leaving little behind. I won't go so far as to say, "good as new", but much better.
