I may be mistaken, but isn't yellow paste just leather conditioner. Why would it even be packaged with a barber's hone?

Maybe the seller had a cold when they packaged the hone?

Just used em normally to shave with..green pasted em a few times..now they are dull as can be..tried to rehone on my barbers hone..but realized I need to reset the bevel..went for 40 minutes trying to rehone my razors with the barbers hone..nothing worked

What exactly did you do to hone them?

Honing like shaving is a learned process and you really need to be able to give yourself the opportunity to learn..........

This hone is a family heirloom..yellow paste was used to create slurry..MANY years ago..razors were all hones professionally by honemeisters..anyways...just bought from SRD Norton 3 piece set+Naniwa 12k SS..should make my razors shaveable soon enough with practice.

I am confused - if I have it correct;
You had shave ready razors that you had stropped on CrOx a few times (I'm assuming that it worked)
They needed refreshing so you tried the barbers hone with a yellow paste and now they won't shave at all.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
How have you determined that they need the bevel reset?
I've never used a barbers hone, however, I am lead to believe that they are around 8k grit.
Given that, you probably should have been able to reset the bevel after 40min - if your technique was adequate.
Maybe you could post some photos of the hone and the paste you are using - it may help us to help you.
I think that you may have to send these razors out to be honed or meet up with a member in your area who may be able to help.
If you send them out, communicate with the honer and see if they can determine where you went wrong.
It really sounds like a technique issue to me.

yes..used em just like you said..after 40 minutes even with spine taped..nothing helped..as I was told from my friend in UK who is a honmeister..when they just start to tug n pull..re hone em..but I went green paste to get a few more uses from them..at that point..they were VERY dull..I put them back in my drawer..I was told a barbers hone is about 6k level grit..when they get VERY dull a rehone is needed but at that time I didnt have a hone and I think they dulled from sitting in their boxes..I sent my razors out in the past to my friend and he always reset the bevel then re honed em

both sides of the hone and 1 pic of the paste..cloudy stuff..that gets wiped on the hone and mixed with some water

@ smalltank-if you want to learn how to hone using coticules, I highly suggest you go to coticule.be why?, I think Bart's site has the best up to date information on using coticules to hone with, and yes, you can use a coticule to correct (re-set) the bevels on all four of your razors. Now, if you want to learn how to hone using Nortons and other syn stones, this site has all you need. I myself use a coticule to correct bevels on any of the razors I have, use and acquire but if the edge has a lot of micro chips or some really big chips, using the coti is tedious for that kind of work so I bought a 1 K Norton to handle the bad edges, then I go back to the coti to finish correcting the bevel. A lot of others might use a King 1 K stone for heavy bevel work, or the Chosera 1 K. Others may have better and different ideas
