    Default Chipped my Norton!!!

    $&@?!

I was digging around in my workshop today, and I had left the norton 4/8 out to dry out a bit -with the lid open- and some crap fell on top of it, including and old bike freewheel.

One of the teeth cut a nice chip in the 4k side....

I will spend Dec 27 lapping the chip out

Where is the chip? You may just be able to hone around it. Or over it, depending on what the inner edges are like.

My camera can't really take a good enought picture.

So today I soaked the Norton and the Norton lapping stone and went at it. It took about half an hour, but the chip is gone - it was about half the size of an eraser head on a pencil and about .5mm to 1 mm deep. Lost a bit of the hoen material, but it was pretty much dead in the centre of the stone, and there was no way I could work around it.

    Lesson learned....
