    Default Surface Plates

    I found very nice granite surface plates at Woodcraft today, thought I'd pass this along for anyone who might be looking for a first rate lapping surface. 2" thick, 9" x 12", guaranteed flat within .0001". $30

    These might be worth trying with the scary sharp type papers as well and I'm planning to give that a shot at some point.

    I've not seen these for awhile. I bought mine from Harbor Freight many years ago (on sale for <$10 as I recall). They are great and quite useful for lapping hones. Danged heavy though . I wouldn't suggest purchasing mailorder if you are paying for the actual shipping cost.
