Thanked: 19Also, you don't speak about test at all (if I read correctly).
Have you tried the Thumb Nail Test (TNT), the Thumb Pad Test (TPT), the Magic Marker Test (MMT), to look with a loupe..... (see the wiki)?
A beginner at honing once said on this forum that his biggest lesson when he had a private lesson with a honemeister was to constantly test to see where he was at and if he was actually doing what he wanted.
good luck

Thanked: 1262A few quick thoughts
1) Do not soak your Naniwas!
2) Your bevel is not set. Check out Lynn's "Circles to Sharp"
3) 1k - 8k is a tough one. I would try to generate slurry on your 8k with the dmt and gradually dilute it with water.
4) Do no use any paste until you can shave off that 8k edge.
