Thanked: 2Barber Hones...More Info needed
Picked up a Barber Hone from Larry at Whipped Dog. It's a Carborundum 104. Unfortunately I can't seem to find very much info on how to properly prep and use a barber hone.
The way I understand it, it's meant to be a touch-up stone to prevent a completely new hone job.
The thing I don't understand is, how do I prep the stone and how do I use it.
I'm familiar with the process of lapping. I do it on CPUs and Heatsinks/Coldplates for better contact. What I'm not familiar with is what the required materials are for lapping a barber hone.
Beyond that, I would assume it would be the same process as using a finishing hone (3-5 laps).
The other issue is that this thing is tiny, and all the vids I see involve nortons or some other similarly sized hone. This is 3" x 2" max. It's really tiny.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanked: 275Check for a YouTube video by gssixgun, showing how to use a barber hone. Lubricate with lather, do 5 laps, strop, test, repeat until sharp.
Lapping (if the hone needs it -- Larry may have lapped it already) is done with a piece of 400-grit wet-or-dry sandpaper, used wet (and flushed), on a flat surface. It's the same as lapping any other hone.

I lap hones with sandpaper on a kitchen worktop.
All fine hones are for touch-ups only. Whether it is a barber hone, coticule, 8K+ synthetic &c. If you need more than a touch-up get a coarser stone.Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose. Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr.
