    Default Basic Touch-up Regimen

Can you guys suggest a good, basic touch-up regimen for a razor that has been shave ready and performed well for a few months but is starting to tug a bit and has lost its smoothness. I have a Norton 4/8k, Naniwa 12k, and SRD modular paddle with one of the felt pads coated with the Diamond spray.

    Thanks.

i would try 10 laps on .5 spray, strop and shave one cheek. if there is very little improvemant. do 10 laps on 12k then 10 on felt again and try that . then perhaps drop back to 8k for 10 laps 12k naniwa for 10 laps and 10 laps on felt. you shoud not need to use 4k , but if you dod i would do 1 stroke on the 4k 5 laps on the 8k repeat twice then finish 10 laps on 12k and 10 laps on .5 spray. this way you will dial in on shave readyness, with out over doing it. also you will see what works and no for next time ..

My general rule is 3 paste touch ups before going to a stone. A paste touch up for me is generally around a dozen laps of chrome ox. After 3 chrome touch ups I find it to be less effective and the edge to be a little lacking, so I'll give it around 10 laps on the Naniwa 12k and that seems to do the trick the majority of times. You can even give it a few laps of paste when done with the Naniwa. I very rarely feel the need to drop down to the Norton 4k/8k; the goal is to touch up your razor before it degrades to the point that you have to use the Norton. I hope this helps.

Quick question: can I substitute diamond spray for CrOx?

Sure, but go easy on the diamond spray. It cuts a lot quicker than chrome, and can cause a harsh feeling edge if overused.

As above Be careful with the spray, for me it's 5 lgt strokes on hard felt with .25,than 10 lgt strokes with crox on leather, you can destroy an edge pronto with the spray.been there done that.
