Thanked: 81Always more to learn
I got a CV Heljestrand Prisbelont Frameback for $20 on ebay. There was a blurry picture so I was knowingly playing the razor lotto. I received the razor about 2 days ago and it was in mediocre shape. Some shallow knicks and corrosion close to the blade and the rest had a fair amount of patina and hone wear. I put the razor on the hones and it was going to need the dreaded "rolling x-stroke" to get it sharp.
Anyway, many thanks to those on this board who have helped with honing advice. I was able to hone this razor into a serious shaving device. Today I had one of the best shaves I have ever had from this razor. I don't know what those crazy swedes were doing to their steel about 140 years ago, but this steel is some seriously good stuff. The razor literally had the "whiskers coming off with the lather" feeling. Smooth is an understatement.
Bottom line, best $20 I ever spent. If the more experienced honers on this board had not posted their advice, I never would have been able to figure out how to hone this razor. Thanks!
