I have only honed two wedges myself - one 4/8 and a 7/8 - both Wade & Butchers (as it happens), so take what I say with a grain of salt.
IME they are very different animals to any other grind I have honed.
I have found the best way is to:-
    (1) Find gssixguns 'honing a smiling wedge' video on YouTube and watch it again and again and again.
    (2) Use tape and cut a piece in half lengthwise so it covers the spine and about 1/4" over the blade, then use a full width piece to cover that one with and replace it as soon as it gets worn (which will be often). I use 3M earth tape (green and yellow stripes) to ensure that it is even on each side. (Most Important!!)
    (3) Start with the 'magic marker' method to ensure that you are honing the entire edge.
    (4) Be prepared to be frustrated.
    (5) Be prepared to be a bit proud of yourself when you get a great shave off the blade you have just honed.
    (6) Hang on and enjoy the ride

Don't be afraid of pressure when you sent the bevel. Just be sure the spine stays on the stone. Too little pressure at this point will lead to #4.

Be patient. You'll get it. Enjoy.
