Honing chipped JR Torrey
I got this off of ebay for 13 dollars. It had a big chip in the toe. I took out most of the chip with a norton oilstone I got at home despot.
This is after part of the nick is honed out:
I stopped honing on the oilstone when I got to this. By this time I had started to rebevel the toe:
I taped the spine and formed a new, curved bevel on the toe using 1K:
Then I set the rest of the Bevel on 1k. Some Nicks remained near the toe So I marked them in red:
I made firm pressure circles alternating with rolling x strokes, from my marking to the toe until the nicks were gone:
Then I honed the whole blade using circles and a modified x stroke, rolling just at the end of the stroke, on the 1k and 4k. Then honed on 8k with just the modified x strokes.
