    Default Problem

Dorko 856,nice clean blade 15/16ish,maybe 1mm even hone wear.
One layer of tape, bevel set on Naniwa 1K,all seems well, move on to my 3K natural, lgt slurry 25ish strokes (really never count) looks great under 100X mag,30/40 more on water only, still looking good.
20/30 on the norton 8K,(water only) and the edge is breaking down.
Zeroish pressure, hones are newley lapped, have not seen this before.
    What to do,start over?
think if I move on to 12K than Jnat it will just get worse, wierd issue.

Do you have any naturals other than the Jnat? I've found that chippy blades sometimes will respond to a coti. Try your Naniwa 3k to get it sharp, and then over to a natural to hone it out to shave ready.

the issue still can be from the natural, just give it a try and see if things change.

Apologies...I read your post incorrectly! I thought you were using a synthetic for the 3k.

Disregard my previous advice...I'm awake now.

IMHO , I think you're honing too much on the 8k . Try 5-10 strokes , after the 3k , and see what happens .

Many times a natural foiling will occur on the edge at both the 8K and 12K or finishing levels (including natural stones) seen under the microscope, especially at higher powers. Sort of looks like sparklies reflecting light. I would try going to the 12, then taking a look and if the sparklies are still there, then do 20-30 strokes on canvas/linen and then 50-60 on leather to see if they go away and the edge becomes very crisp.

    Have fun.
