Yessir. You may have too many hones when.....

I did some further experimenting with mine today. I got the same results. I got the best bevel I could with my 8K norton viewing it with my 50x scope. Just water on the C-12k and it scratched the heck out of it. Back to the 8K and it smoothed out. I am not saying that the 8K doesn't leave any scratches but it cleaned up the
C-12K marks. Mine is going to the bottom of my box of hones. The only time that I can think I might use it in the near future is to compare it to a King 6K that I have yet to play much with.

I wish I could take pictures of what I am seeing to share with the group.

Another marathon honing session for me today.

I learned something kind of interesting as well about my CNat.

First, Even tho the shave with my Spike this morning was pretty good, I honestly thought it could have been better.

I honed 3 more Spikes (tried for #4 but failed do to a really poor razor, lots of hone wear and a wavy edge) which I got shave ready in no time. I was actually getting faster, no 3 hours on one razor today!! I had enough time to throw in my Robeson's Best also.

1 of the razors I took to the CNat, the others I stopped at the 8k, went to some diamond and then CrOx paddles, then off to 100/200 wool felt and Leather.

The CNat razor was not as sharp as the other 2, which both literally POPPED when they cut a hair. They just fell off when they came in contact with the edges. The Cnat (which I took out to 150 X's, doing 30 circles at sets of 25 as before) just didn't come up to that standard. I tried both sides of the CNat as well, but it just didn't have the same feel as the 8k, it seemed courser. I took my Robeson only through the 8k, Diamond and CrOx as well, and that razor just sang, all along the edge (shoulderless, done with 3 layers of tape). All the Spikes I only did 2 layers of tape.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the CNat puts as good an edge on them as I really felt it was better coming off the 8k.

I'll have to do some more experimenting to know for certain. I am thinking I just simply get a better edge following my JaNorton training than I can of my 2" wide CNat.

I might have to try and get the 8x3 one from Woodcraft as I think part of the problem is the narrow width of my CNat. I'm just not certain I am getting consistent results from it. Maybe get the one from our Poland friend and hope for the best.

Just something I guess I should consider.

Just from what I have from that polish fella is just amazing, and I'm not bragging it up or anything and just from the basic input of what everyone has told me only one person so far has said they got a bad one from him. Everyone that ordered theirs from woodcraft seems to be 1 out of 4 is a good stone, now if you have a chance to walk into a woodcraft store and check them out yourself that's a different story. Oh and he offers a 3"x8" one also and other sizes. I think I'm going to get a bigger one also, but I know it's going to be tough to top the one I have.

I just got done setting a good bevel off my King 1k, and got it to pop hairs nice and easy. This one is a "Perfecto" made by Carl Friedrich Ern for the Crown Barber Supply Co. and the blade is extremely hollow ground. Look how thin it is, steel feels pretty tough for being so thin. I see why Barbers would like a thin blade as it doesn't take long to hone.

Going to hone down the rest of the progression tonight and document the results. Good work so far guys, hopefully within the next month we'll have a large amount of photos and results of different stones. Keep up the good work!!!

Visually, what are the signs to look for when choosing a good one? I've got a woodcraft 20 miles away and might pickup a #2 or order it from Poland.
