    That's true, but kerosene is flammable, so the wife might not approve of you keeping it in the house. I wind up doing my blade refreshes standing at the sink, fully lathered up, with a half-inch of cheek shaved, so it's easier to brush a bit of lather on the hone and go at it rather than to haul out the kerosene and smell up the bathroom.

    The lather is also nice because the suction behind the bevel makes it foam up a bit, which seems to pull any old swarf out of the stone. The first few times I used it I was surprised at how much crud came out of my "clean" hone.

    That's why I got rid of mine. They can be so unreasonable.
