Also Id be watching your forward stoke, seems like a common area for rough uneven strokes..
I used to occasionally lift the spine at the end of my strokes mildly, wrecking my previous edge and back to 1k.
If you have been on it for more than 45 mins better to put it down for another day.
I'm just typing for encouragment, I got all my lessons from gssixguns videos, as well as a group lesson with holli4pirating (very grateful for both)
    See it through!
Yeah I'm pretty exasperated...probably because I seemed to have it perfect at 1K and lost the edge.

I watched gssixgun's video and, in fact, got the "grip" shelf liner below my stones. I also got the stones positioned so that I could stroke left-handed...very important for me.

Best advice yet is to quit for today.

Can't thank you enough my friend for getting me through this one. This morning I watched another gssixgun video and this time I conquered the beast and got a BBS shave. I needed your encouragement to get me through! This is the video I watched (although I used the full compliment of hones: 1k, 4/8k, 12k).

Thanks again! This is the authoritative straight shavivng forum!

Now, I'm going to tackle a couple others I've had trouble with.

For what it's worth (I am no honemeister, at least, not yet): I have the same set, a Red Injun and a King Kutter. The RI is my easier razor and the KK takes more work. It is as if the KK has harder steel. Takes longer to get a good edge, but once it is sharp, it stays sharp longer. It was the first razor that could withstand my abuse as a starting str8 shaver. The RI is my experimental razor, because it is so much easier to get back in shaving shape.

I think you're right based on my recent experience.
