I may need to change tables. I'm currently in the bathroom sink sitting on the side of the tub. I see my elbow and arm straight, but I see how the water don't follow the edge all the time. Sometimes it looks perfect others don't.

You are spending way too much time on this razor especially with the lower grits. You really need to stop and figure out what you are doing wrong. To continue to grind away at the razor will not solve the problem. A picture of the razor might help us.

Slow the stroke down and pay close attention to what's going on.

Is the razor in bad shape, indicated by a ton of spine/ hone wear? If that's the case, it may take a lot of time on the lower grit hone. If not...

It may be an idea to hone just the toe for a while so it catches up a little.

As you can see I'm having problems with the incoming stroke ( non-gold edging side) by the toe. I can get the whole edge with pressure but not with light pressure, not even with X strokes!

Do you think my stroke needs improving? Or is the spine on the blade un-even? I'm watching my form and taking it very slow. I know some times I can't make a good stroke (spine even contact on the stone) but I feel most of the times they are good strokes.

Got it to cut arm hairs at the base of the hair with some pressure on 80% of the blade twice. I lost the edge on the shapton 4 K stone. When you switch stones, do you continue with the same light pressure you finish on the coarser stone?

    Thanks in advance, Double O

Success at last, success at last!!!!

Started with lapping the 1200 king and started again very slow, putting the pressure where it was needed, 25 circles with pressure, 10 straight up and down with pressure, 20 circles very little pressure follow by 20 X strokes with very little pressure. All the time watching the edge moving water in all or the majority of the edge. What I could not get on the light pressure stroke, I got it on the X stroke light pressure. Got it to cut arm hair at the base with some pressure on about 80% of the blade. Decided to move to the 4000 shapton and continue the same regiment of circles, up and down and X strokes. It was painfully slow between a snail and a cripple ant. Making sure the edge was moving water along the edge and switching pressure to wherever it was needed for this to happen. I notice that as I did this, the pressure needed to keep the edge pushing water, was less and less. Got it to cut arm hair at the base with very little pressure on 95% of the blade (the heel was lacking a little bit) out of the 4K. Moved to the 8K (change tape) and did only the straight up and down and X strokes. Used as little pressure as possible but making sure that the water was pushed evenly, either on the up and down or on the X stroke. Slow, as to be very light with the positive feed back of the water push by the edge (very tricky). Still cutting arm hair at the base with little pressure 100% of the blade. Moved to the 16K, 10 up and down, 10 X strokes, 5 up and down, 5 X strokes. Amazingly to me, the water at the edge was pushed evenly on 100% of the blade with very little pressure. With the tape out, did 20 passes on the .5 micron diamond treated felt, 20 on the CrO leather, 40 on the clean felt, 50 on the linen, 100 on the leather.

I will confess I was nervous as heck! The shave was amazing! The edge felt so smooth and sharp that I started to do scything motion on the chin and the mustache area for the first time. All the hairs where coming off. I couldn't believe it myself! And that's where it bit me, on the upper lip area. Had to stop the shave to stop the bleeding. Once bleeding stop, I continue with the shave for a BBS after touch ups. Needless to say, I'm very happy with myself, this forum and the people that help make this happen (videos, comments, etc etc etc). Thank you! Double O
