Default Woooohooo What's the best way to Escher?

I just got an extravagant birthday present.

There is a for real Escher lapped and ready to go on its way to me.

What is the proper ritual to get the most from this gem?

It seems reasonable to expect from now on my razors should require nothing more than my proximity to give a BBS shave.

Congrats! The ritual is to be sure you get the edgee to be all it can be on your other hones before putting it on your new Escher. Enjoy your new toy.

I like to work up a light slurry and dilute to about clear water as I go. Kind of like what the coticule guys call a dulicote IIRC. I believe Sham does the same while Lynn and Tim Zowada favor water only. The general consensus is to bring the razor to the escher when it is already shaving sharp. It is a finisher and using it too early will just take more time and waste expensive stone doing something that could be done with a readily available and cheaper alternative.

So get it ready with the synthetic and go to the escher for the icing on the cake. Sham told me he thinks the razor should be at least 10 to 12k sharp before finishing on the escher. I only have the 8k and after finishing on an escher the edges are perfect for my particular skin/whiskers. It will go out to you on Monday BTW and I'll forward a tracking # when I have one. Happy Birthday and thanks !

Use a slurry, blade needs to be at maxium sharpness before the Escher stone. Have fun!

Just to let you guys know, the only true way to know what your Escher will really do is to send them to me for at least 6 months to run trials on, and I will tell you what works best...

    No really

    Honest

Would I lie to you ?????

    Congrats on the stones

Quite an education I was always under the impression that if you laid the blade and the Escher, together on a soft satin pillow, turned down the lights, a glass of wine,a candle to set the ambiance, some soft music.
Close the door and came back the next day,The blade would be nervana Sharp)
    Learn new things every day.

So I guess tossing the stone and all my razors in a gunny sack and putting then in the dryer for 45 minutes is outta the question??
