Default Finishing edge on Norton 8K

Last night I tried something that helped me polish my edge on my Norton 8K.

I'm still learning to hone, and my X-pattern strokes aren't always very even, especially when I'm trying to use really light pressure on the 8K side of the stone.

So I cut my strokes in half. Instead of using the whole face of the stone, I took short, half strokes on the final laps. I started the razor in the usual position, but I kept the stroke to about 4 inches, drawing the razor down so that half of the blade was still on the stone when I completed the stroke.

It takes more strokes to finish the edge, but it was easier for me to keep the pressure even because my arm wasn't moving side to side as much.

Just thought I'd pass it along...

I've found the same thing. I think the shorter stroke is why I seem to be more comfortable using barber hones.
