Well... Im silly I know but I did not lap them yet. I am waiting for the funds for a don't and the guy who sold them to me told me they didn't need to be lapped. They looked good to me so I thought I'd give them a whirl. You are speaking of the DMT 325 right?

Yep...DMT 325...the 8x3 or 10x4.
I hate to tell you this, but you aren't going to learn anything productive until you know for sure that your hones are flat. In the interim as a quick fix...you can use wet dry sandpaper and a piece of thick glass or some other very truly flat surface.

i'm not sure if it's the same with king stones, but with my nortons...in addition to them not being flat...i had to remove the entire top layer before i really had a good surface to work with. so if that's the case with king stones as well, i think it will be a whole new ballgame for you. plus, you use the DMT before every use to clean it and/or make slurry...so you won't have to worry about your nagura stone.

Thanked: 194just incase you were trying to save a bit of cash you can go with the dmt credit card size. Alot of folks will say that you should not be lapping your stones with it but I have done it with all my stones and it works just fine. I also use it as a slurry card and it works soooo much better than the naguras. You can find them here from a great Canadian vendor...DMT Credit Card Sharpener - A.K.A Slurry card! it only costs about $15 bucks plus a bit for shipping. since your in Canada it wont be much. I look forward to reading your journal!!

I think it's fine for slurry, but i would fall in the non-lapping folks corner. I'm sure it CAN work fine, but you don't really have a flat surface you are working with, so you can't really ensure that you are getting your hone flat and you are adding more variables in the equation instead of taking them away. i would use wet/dry sand paper and a piece of glass before a card. if it was a huge amount of money difference, i could see why one would want to try and make due...but for a $35 difference and considering it will probably outlast most of your hones, i don't see why someone just wouldn't get the d8c...JMHO

Thanked: 194Not sure what you mean by not being flat. Its perfectly flat for me and is wider enough to cover the stones width. As long as consistent strokes are used it works great. Either way the sandpaper works okay. Goodluck with the honing.

Good news is that my king stones were indeed already true! 3 different sets of grids on three different stones, and each grid only took maybe a minute or less to remove the surface of my stones is again flawless and I will not touch that damn nagura. The king stones are way too soft for nagura use in my opinion.
