    Default Heel Troubles

I have a Dbl duck I purchased from an antique store and thought I would try and hone it up on my new Norton 4/8.
Stone is lapped and flat. I bkd with DMT 325 to get a chip out at the heel and followed the vids on the 4/8. I got a bevel that would pop arm hair all the down the blade and finished on the 8k, stropped and did HHT. Folicle side out would pop all the way down, the heel didn't pop quite as well. Hair tip side out would pop all the way to the last 1/4" of the heel, and if I see-sawed it a little it would sometimes cut at the heel. I test shaved and it shaved well except for the heel.
I have tried 5 times to re-bevel and the same results. I can say that when honing, the heel doesn't want to touch the stone as easy as the rest of the blade. It does smile a little after chip removal. The spine has very little hone wear, and is not warped that I can tell. I am using tape. Any suggestions on getting the heel as keen as the rest of the blade? I've tried pushing that part and 45 degree angle rolling stokes.

Try some two handed honing on coarse stone with just enough index finger pressure on blade over the heal. Magic maker on bevel may give you additional feedback to see if this corrects the problem.

+1 on using a magic marker. That can help you to adjust your rolling X strokes so you're honing the heel as well as the rest of the edge.

Yep, I did the magic marker test. It seemed to take extreme heel forward and pushing that part of the blade to get the ink to go away. Would there be a problem with the spine as far as it being thicker that is making it hard to get the heel? Even after getting the ink to disappear, I can't seem to get the heel quite as sharp as the rest. Would going to the DMT with three pieces of tape help? I don't want to keep grinding away on this razor until there is nothing left lol.

Can we see a pic of the heel ????

I am thinking that if you Breadknifed out a chip that you didn't grind down the stabilizers and heel to match ???? when you re-contour an edge you have to check all the geometery

    Yeah GS,
I remember you talking about that on the BK video but was unsure how far to take them down. I'll try to get some pics this weekend if not before. Thanks a ton for any help.
