Heel Troubles
I have a Dbl duck I purchased from an antique store and thought I would try and hone it up on my new Norton 4/8.
Stone is lapped and flat. I bkd with DMT 325 to get a chip out at the heel and followed the vids on the 4/8. I got a bevel that would pop arm hair all the down the blade and finished on the 8k, stropped and did HHT. Folicle side out would pop all the way down, the heel didn't pop quite as well. Hair tip side out would pop all the way to the last 1/4" of the heel, and if I see-sawed it a little it would sometimes cut at the heel. I test shaved and it shaved well except for the heel.
I have tried 5 times to re-bevel and the same results. I can say that when honing, the heel doesn't want to touch the stone as easy as the rest of the blade. It does smile a little after chip removal. The spine has very little hone wear, and is not warped that I can tell. I am using tape. Any suggestions on getting the heel as keen as the rest of the blade? I've tried pushing that part and 45 degree angle rolling stokes.
