    Default First time honing

A week or so ago I hit the head of the razor with the nozzle of the sink and I got a very tiny bent that's unvisible to the eye but if you run your finger on the side you can feel and it cuts. So I decided to give my razor a hone to fix it up. So I lapped my 4k/8k norton on sand paper (320) over a piece of glass and lapped the sides too. Anyway, I gave it a touch on the 4k and then on the 8k and tested with the hanging hair on the head, middle and toe. I felt it was good enough to give it a shave try, after all I purchased the razor less than a couple of months ago from SRD so it didn't need a lot of work. I gave the razor a try and shaved with it and it felt beautiful. I'm very happy with the shave. I am accustomed to the shavette, I used shavettes for over 6 years before I purchased my first straight and the sense of sharpness for me is different. I was told by the SRP users on the chat that it will feel not sharp at all but it indeed extremely sharp and I felt that when I got the razor from SRD already honed. Anyway, I wanted to get to the point of it felt not sharp at all but the hair just vanished which in my previous experience means it was very sharp or at least sharp enough to be used for shaving. Even though I have some oxyde, I did not find a fit material to use it on, so I stropped on the back side of the strop (which is made of a nylon material maybe , I'm not sure though, it is also from SRD) around 50 strokes and around 60 strokes on the leather. I'm extremely happy with the results. It felt extremely good.

I'm open to suggestions on the kind of material to use the oxyde on, I don't know what can and cannot be used for it but I was thinking of some newspapers or maybe the papers of the yellow pages that's useless.

Note: I forgot to mention that I used an electric tape over the spine.
