Why use tape?

not into that new age hair licking. My shapton 8k feels like my norton krystolo when i slip it the tongue, but my hunsruek is smoother than the 30k shapton when i tongue them. i'm honing my tongue so the last item is not needed around here

tape questions are

i tape to protect a pretty spine or the design on my damascus razors... or when i'm using very coarse stones <1k

I know that this is unique , but I have a serious question. The Tape. Once it'd on the razor and you rotate through a razor a day, a different one ~every 2wks . Any reason not to leave the tape on??? Why i ask is that i Barber Hone after each shave before I strop . Thanks.

Yes, a very good reason.. Rust. No guarantees that water doesn't get under the tape.
