Premature heal sharpening
When establishing a new bevel, the heel has a tendency to sharpen before the rest of the blade reaches the bevel. I have tried to put more pressure on the toe and middle of the blade, but that does not seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Would an extra layer of tape at the heel help?

Just this razor or does it happen with all razors? On both sides of the razor?
Could try some black marker while sharpening to see exactly where the hone is hitting the blade.

Thanked: 4942I would think you are keeping your elbow down which will actually place more pressure on the heel of the razor. I would elevate your elbow to try to help keep the razor flat, cant the heel forward and then try to think to the middle of the razor as you do either circles or X strokes.
Have fun.

In that case, I think Lynn has your solution.
Using a sharpie helps you see where you are hitting the edge. Even some long time honers use the sharpie trick, fast edge feedback with few strokes.Last edited by Sticky; 05-25-2012 at 01:43 AM. Reason: punctuation
