Default Where do you get all the hair for HHT?

As I read (and read...and read...I'm still such a newb) and wait for my first set of shaving equipment to come in the mail, I'm looking at the skills I'm going to need to learn so that I can eventually hone my razor. I notice the HHT as being used quite frequently, it seems, but I can forsee having a problem with this...what do you do if you can't get ahold of any hair?

You see, everyone I know has hair which is, at most, an inch long, and most of it is shorter than that. Is such a short hair useful for an HHT? Is there a hair "substitute?" It won't be a problem in 5-6 months when I can go home and finally put all of my wife's shower hair to good use, but until then I am stumped

At the risk of offending you, does this mean a short hair is ok?

Yeah. You just want to be able to show the blade is sharp enough to cut through a hair in the middle of the stalk. Once the blade is capable of cutting any hair it touches when held a millimeter off the skin, it's pretty much ready to go, especially if it can pop the softer hairs near my wrist or elbow.

I cut my own hair with a set of Wahl electric clippers. I grabbed a handful of hair last time, and I have like a 10-year supply.

By the way, the thickness of the hair makes a big difference. My hair works well, because it's pretty thick. If you have thin or light blond hair, you may not be able to get even a really sharp razor to cut it.

    Good luck,
    Josh

That's why I use arm hair, the hair on my head is to thin for the HHT (and thinning, but that's getting old for you).

I find the arm hair test more reliable and consistent than the HHT. The only problem is that after honing it leaves a few bald patches on the arm. As my hair is very blond that goes unnoticed.

I rob my wife's hair brush. She sheds like an English Sheep Dog.
