LMAO 2005 xfr! (re. taking a long time to lap a Norton 8K)
When I went to last years SRP Denver Meet Up I had just acquired my first hone ever -- a Norton 4/8K and Glen started the lapping job with his DMT 325. He demonstrated a bit before turning it over to me. Everyone's have fun -- talking razors, visiting, eating -- man, I'm still lapping on the 8K side of my Norton. And lapping, lapping. Logistics mentioned later, "Yep, right when I walked in and saw you lapping on the 8K I said to myself, 'new guy!" LOL.
Man, I worked up a sweat! But before I left I got that baby flat and Glen even had my razor truly shave ready so I could see what everyone was talking about. Then the RAD set in. I got about 30 straights in the last year. Now the HAD is setting in...grin.
WHAT A GREAT HOBBY WITH GREAT FOLKS TO SHARE IT WITH! Have a great time.

Thanked: 2I have noticed that an overnight soak then lapping with the norton lapping stone works great for me. I like the DMT 325 idea though,.

Thanked: 0Okay, I just got my Norton 4k/8k combo and thought that I could get right to it. After reading the above threads the question arose: do I have to
lap these before I use them the first time? Yes I'm a 'never honed before' guy. Thanks.
