    I always rinse every stone after using it. I also rinse each blade well after coming off a stone before moving to the next stone.

    I am absolutely anal about that. One of the reasons I bought single grit norton 4 & 8 rather than the combo.

    Like Birnando, I clean my hones with tap water. Generally I hold the hone upside-down over the sink and lift water in a cupped hand to it so that the swarf rinses away with gravity. Seems less messy that way, too.
