    I feel as taping the spine, the angle should be slightly more than the angle of it in the box. That way, as using the box in the future, the edge will be hitting the hone. It should be fairly easy to do this with honing, magnification, perhaps a marker test.

    But Tom, you have it backwards! if you raise the spine for honing, and then drop it for the box, you will be hitting the top of the bevel, not the edge. It may not matter for stropping, but for the stone portion, you wont see any improvements

    I measured the clearance in the box and went slightly less so that using the box strop would hit the edge
