I use an interfacing woven fabric, thinner that hard felt, but with the same properties, will take being wet and dries quickly.

CBN works best when lubricated with a fine mist of distilled water. The CBN hanging strop is sprayed with .50 on one side and .125 on the other. CBN will polish a bevel and make it gleam.

Stropped on Chrome Oxide first and then on a MAAS pasted hanging nylon strop will remove 80-90% of the stria on the bevel, polish and refine the edge. Then stropping with CBN at .05 and .125 will remove all the rest and leave a stria free bevel viewed at 100X, a super keen, yet comfortable edge.

A hanging strop will give you a convex, boat hull shaped bevel that will be stronger and last longer that a thin super sharp CBN paddle stropped edge. An edge stropped as above will last at least 2 weeks of daily shaving before keenness begins to fall off. 5-10 laps on the .125 will bring it right back.

CBN .125 is rated at 120k grit, provides the speed and sharpness of diamond with the comfort of an old Surgical Black Arkansas stone.

I use cbn on leather, after honing as a final touch.Personally i find cbn .125 to add some smoothness, and unlike diamond sprays not harsh at all.Its best use is probably to renew a razor that just starting to go south a few laps and your back in business.

Wise guy.....I used to pull up to folks in a marked patrol car at a red light, have them roll down their window then ask if they had any Grey Poupon. They would look at me and my partner and not know what to say or do. We would then just drive away. Wish I had a camera in the car back then, some of the looks were priceless.

    Well...nice turnout for this thread.
I am not surprised at all the different ways to use CBN and that was what I was looking for.
I hope others got as much out of this thread as I have.
    Thanks guys!

I use it like diamond spray but find that it is faster than diamond.
So 0.5 diamond and 0.25cbn are about equal.

I like 0.5 or 0.25 micron spray on the canvas of my Illinois strop. I have too many razors in my rotation so a fine application of sub micron bits seems to refresh them best. I tend to ignore refreshing the strop and go a long time between applications on canvas. At this point my canvas is very dark and needs no additional agents as the steel swarf oxidizes and is abrasive enough and self refreshing.

Hard felt beckons.... it could change my mind.

I do like CeOx dusted on leather. It lightens the draw and smooths the shave.
