How about this cute little set from Lee Valley:

It seems perfect and at $53.50CA, it won't break the bank.

First of all: thanks to you all for your replies and help/tips. As in the set Firestart recommends happens to be a ceramic hone... I was wondering if a ceramic hone could be applied to a straight razor??? Perhaps not a round one, but a flat one... Does it exist... does anybody has experience with it or is it just a crazy idea?
thanks,
michel

Its my understanding that most old barber hones are very fine ceramic hones.

Yes they can be. The perfect example is the Spyderco Ultrafine. Robert swears by those. There's also an Idahone but they're relatively difficult to find. I want to try the Lee Valley $35 alternative.

This is a timely thread. My local kitchen store just raised their prices for sharpening services. So yesterday I bought a King 800 grit stone. They say this is what they use. Maybe I could polish on one of the Carborundum hones I have? Thanks for all the info guys!
