Japanese style strokes?
I was watching some videos on Japanese style honing, and they were using a back and forth motion. Would it be feasible to use this style stroke on a finishing stone in the 12k range?

I've used that method, along with circles, in bevel setting on a 1k stone. I haven't used it on a finishing stone. Not saying it isn't doable. If you like to experiment give it a try but no pressure AFAIC. Someone who has already been there and done that may be along.

Thanked: 2591I do not think the style can be called Japanese, it is just back and forth stroke, I mean coticule is used a lot like that as well.
Just use w/e method works best for you and gives you the edge you like.Stefan

I use that stroke on Jnats which would be finer but mostly just to help break down the slurry. When it comes to finishing tho, alternating strokes is the way to keep things even.
