Hard Arkansas Buck #135
Has anyone used a Hard Arkansas Buck #135 stone to set a bevel? I was too cheap to get the Norton 1K grit stone and my uncle had the Arkansas so I thought I would give it a try.

Soft Arkies and washitas are the best bet for setting a bevel with an Arkie. The hard Arkansas will work, just much slower than the soft ones(and they are really slow themselves).

Thanked: 2209The speed of a hard Arkansas is best described as "glacial". Oil paint dry's faster.
Actually the term "speedy Arkansas stone" should be classified as an oxymoron.Last edited by randydance062449; 10-07-2012 at 03:22 PM.

Yeah your right. I just spent two and half hours on in and must have made 500+ passes, but the bevel finally set. We will shave test tomorrow.

Thanked: 459Did you have a diamond hone you could've used to agitate the surface? The abrasive is fairly coarse in a hard ark, probably like 10+ microns, and when it's freshly agitated and in a slurry it will cut fast, but it loses that cutting ability quickly if it's not refreshed.
