Default loaded 4k side of Norton

Seems my 4k side of the 4k/8k Norton stopped cutting. Lapping was done with 3m wet/dry paper on both sides - various grits below 1k. 8k side is fine. Is there a method to get the apparent clogging out of the pores?

Scrubbing pad and then more lapping.

Is your Norton black with metal deposits? If not, I doubt it's clogged. I've put thousands of strokes on my Norton and never had it come anywhere near clogging.

Is it possible that it just feels different now that you've lapped it? The factory finish on mine was pretty different from what I got after lapping.

More lapping, maybe using a 400-grit paper, should take care of any clogging. Then finish on some 800 or 1000 grit, and you're there.

    Default Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It definitely feels smoother after lapping than it did with the factory finish. I'll give your suggestions a try when I have a free moment.

    All the best.
