    Default Cost Of Swaty

    HI,

Can anyone give me some idea of what cost a swaty in good condition may fetch on ebay.

The one I'm watching has just hit $46 all of a sudden and I don't know what to expect with these things.

    Thanks

    John

    John,
Sometimes the prices get a little high like that. I won a swaty on Ebay a few weeks ago that went for $48 american, but it was an 8" X 2", something I'd never seen. Usually, they should be less than $25, be patient, you'll find one at the right price.

I agree John, I think that the season is driving up prices right now. Keep doing searches for them and you'll find one at a decent price. Also, sometimes there are people selling razor lots with swatys and/or other hones.
It really stinks that the company is still in business and probably still making the same hones, but not for razor sharpening. http://www.swaty-3stars.sk/

I have to agree. look for odd lots and mis-names items too, I got mine for $15 with a small wooded loom type strop and a DE blade sharpener. I think it went so cheep because the item at the top of the listing was the DE sharpening stone and the Swaty was just called an old sharpening stone.

Neat link to the swaty company They make a scythe sharpening stone so its a shame they don't still make a razor stone.

Just finished went for $52. I have been like watching this for a week, and there was no activity with it until this last two hrs, how annoying, but way too much for me.

    Wildtim,
I see your other passion, German Sheperds. I have always had a love for them also. I currently am on my third sheperd who at 2 yrs of age will probably have another yr at least before he stops pulling the laundry of the line . I have not put enough time in with his training.

Recently I won an Ebay Shumate honing stone which turned out to be the same as a Swaty but with the name Shumate 6x2, which also made staight razors. It is in very good condition I payed $9 shipped. So the deals are out there. Just because the name Swaty was not on the stone nobody payed attention. I did.

    Raf,
I am learning so much, and now you have thrown another name into the mix. I have never heard of that one, so I shall go and do a search for that now. There are so many different names but I just don't know enough yet.

I think I did a search for barber hones and sharpening stones and it was just there with no bids. I may have gotten lucky that it had a different name. I knew the name and once I looked at the pics from the auction I knew what is was. Sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut. Keep looking there is stuff out there.
