Thanked: 13249That is a good idea to try, I suspect that there might be another issue at work here but you are thinking correctly on the process..
This is not your first razor you have honed.
Have you had the same problem on other razors
Another thought is to add or subtract slurry on the Chosera 1k

Could you let us know what this other issue would be? I think ezpz is trying to debug my honing as we were discussing this on the chat. I have already gotten a bit further when Lynn told me that he uses about 20lbs of pressure with the bevel setting circles. I cant even put that much pressure on the razor. I was using anything between 0-2lbs and trying out different things but nothing seemed to work. I was basing this on another thread where a bunch of guys told what kind of pressure they were using. I tried heavy pressure this morning and things started really progressing. Everything seems to point in the direction that my bevel is actually coming together now. Now I need to work on nice and even strokes.
I also noticed that my chosera was glazed. The slurry stone did wonders to it.-- In lack of better signature --

Thanked: 13249Mikko,
One thing I have always said is "When you hit a brick wall in honing" first take a breath and walk away
But when you sit back down, change something to get the steel to budge..
Add or subtract slurry
Go up or down one stone
Change stokes
Add or subtract a layer of tape
Clean the hone
Add or subtract water or oil
At the higher grit and a microchipping issue strop the razor after each stone
These are just some sugestions in no set orderLast edited by gssixgun; 11-07-2012 at 03:16 PM.

You definitely got me there. I don't think I have ever been so frustrated trying to learn something than I have been with honing, but that's no news to you experienced guys. Sometimes the best thing is to walk away and come back later and I have done that at least dozen times with honing by now. That just makes your first true success even sweeter. The prize is out there.

I think I had the same "breakthrough"...I could not figure out for the life of me why I could not pop hair after doing 3-4 sets of circles on my King 1k! As it turns out, I was using FAR to little pressure, and when I re-tried the circles with a good amount of pressure I was able to get a MUCH better bevel. I used 3x sets of circles with good pressure on my Boker, and the rest of the progression went much smoother. I wasn't pulling my hair out after finishing the 4k and wondering why I couldn't pop hair!!
