CBN spray & Nano cloth
Came across this video on youtube and it looks pretty impressive. Never heard of it before but maybe some of you guys have ?
Sorry if this is common knowledge but I'm not an avid forum user!
Would like to hear all opinions, pro's/con's etc especially from you more experienced users...

Thanked: 26Seems to me he is more interested in a polished bevel, and not really on the edge itself.

CBN spray & Nano cloth
I use a nano cloth with .1 CBN and I like it. Balsa has never been as good of a medium as others (leather, hard wool felt and lately nano cloth) for straight razor (feeling). I bet the picture of the same CrOx on any other medium I mention above, would be more polish than the one of the balsa (just a guess). I use a progression of .5 diamond on hard wool felt, .5 CrOx on rough leather, then .25 CBN and .1 CBN on nano cloth. Some times I just refresh the edge on .1 CBN on the nano, with good results. The only disadvantage I see to the nano glass is cost. $30.00 for an 8"X3" patch.for a good progression you would need at least 3 + the CBN spry at $38 a pop. Do yourself a favor and get a Zulu Grey. I'm convince it is a better, cheaper and more versatile system than the CBN spray and cloth. I have both and both are good! Zulu is more consistent.
I agree 100% that the feel and closeness of the shave is what matters. However, the general consensus is that the more polish the edge, the more comfortable and sharp it is. So with that in mind the microscope helps to see what "you" consider a good edge, which in turns looks like a very polished edge. I don't have one, not planing on getting a USB microscope any time soon, but I think is great to have people do this. Double O

Thanked: 66I wonder what the difference is between nano cloth and 3M microfiber cloth is.
You know darn well that a company doesn't make a cloth just for honing straight razors, this product has a different name used for something else......
Hmmm...

Thanked: 3227I have no problem with people pushing the envelope in any field of endeavour. Without that curiosity and experimentation no advances would be made. I really makes you wonder how people, in the heyday of straight razor usage, ever succeeded in getting a good shave. I think with a lot of stuff we are passed the point of diminishing return for money spent. Nothing wrong with that either.

CBN spray & Nano cloth
I saw this one a while back on chefknivestogo
I looked around for "nano-cloth". Doesn't seem to exist anywhere else.
Ill probably spring for it someday.“there is the danger that the ignorant man may easily underdose himself and by exposing his microbes to nonlethal quantities of the drug make them resistant.”---Fleming

Thanked: 267It is nice to someone that is enthusiastic! I have been using 0.1 micron CBN for, if I remember correctly, about a year and a half. That being said it is not for everyone but for me it has been my go to finisher for some time now and I will probably go with it for a long while. I love the edges that I get and they are the smoothest that I have yet experienced.
All that being said this is a IMHO take on the nano cloth on glass. The reason for the glass is that it offers a hard flat surface, which is good. In general a razor that is ready for CBN has been completely honed and ready for shaving. The more perfect the edge the better. I use CBN two different ways each part is quite different.
Firstly an option that I often use is to put CBN spray on my beautiful Japanese Natural Asagi finishing stone......heresy I know...... and use it as a slurry on the stone for about 10 to 20 feather light pressure laps. It would seem to me that this would approximate his usage of the cloth on the glass but is more wasteful since the CBN on the stone is gone once cleaned up. I say "approximate" because I am using a honing motion not a stropping motion and because of that I think the edge would be different. When I use this method I do about three razors to minimize waste. I have had the same bottle for a very long time, have given some away and still have a very large amount.
Secondly I use CBN on hard felt which is a very frugal way to use the spray. One application has lasted me over a year now. The impregnated felt is used with stropping motion. I often use it instead of using CBN on the stone but its main usage is that I use it like one would use a Barber's Hone. I keep it in my bathroom with my shaving gear and do touch ups. Works very well for me.
Sorry, turned into a long post. CBN is not for everyone but many like and live by CBN edges...... I am in that crowd.
Take Care,
