    A micron is a metric measurement of 1 micrometer (1 µ) length, 1/1,000,000 of a meter, or 1/1,000 of a millimeter. A human hair measures 50 - 120 microns in thickness. One inch is 25,400 microns. The metric system (SI) is the common system of measurement used by science and in most countries.
