Thiers Issard 5/8 Historical Surgical Razor
Interesting blade. Instead of each side of the blade being ground, only one side is. So one side flat and one side 1/4 hollow ground. My question is: How do you hone it? I think the hollow ground side is done as you would for any razor but the other? Do you just treat both sides like a regular razor? Information and advice, please.

Sounds like a microtome. Check out this thread for some tips if that is what you've got.

If one side is dead flat, and the other slightly or completely hollowed; sounds like a kamisori style grind to me...I would honestly hone it that way; Glen did a few videos on how to hone kamisories on youtube. I can't think of any other way it would work honestly. Well I guess me and jimmy had differing opinions at the exact same moment lol! Yeah, if he has dealt with one of these, then I would go w/ his advice as well.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Thanked: 4249Found a pic online of the razor profile, sure looks like a microtome!
Description from TI:
The Thiers Issard 5/8" Surgical Straight Razor is of spartan design and beautiful simplicity. Its blade has a special architecture similar to that of wedge-type blades, and is modeled for use in a "microtome", an instrument designed to make extremely precise cuts or slices for microscopic observation. The result is a top-of-the-line, precision shaving instrument.Last edited by Martin103; 11-05-2012 at 11:53 PM.

How would that effect your shaving angle when changing hands?
Any day on this side of the flowers is a good day!

It's nothing like a kamisori so forget that.
Do a search on the Microtomes and you'll get plenty of info on dealing with those. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
