Thread: Hard lesson learned:(

Got a lot of blades off the bay, 20 for 60 bux,one I really wanted, the rest are mostly trash,15/16 twin brand G.Hoppe,no scales.
Made a set of Ivory scales,Blade had some crud I was sure would hone out on the edge,NOT right at the toe,lava tubes,blade is now 6/8,I quit, go's in the trash bin,after I un-pin it.

Damn that's too bad...OTOH the scales are beautiful!!

Ohhhh, I'm really sorry, maybe could be the faith,but I think that this beautiful scales needs a better blade of this factory blade, is vintage but always from factory.
I suggest you one custom blade,( not a fancy blade, but a traditional) there are many good custom razors makers where you can buy just one blade and at the end you have great nice unique piece. Of course I suggest you to looking for something exotic like italian maker, Mastro Livi or also Medusa, but there are also good razors maker in your country. Let me know what you think about.

And ohhh, your razors stands are awesome, congrats.

That sucks buddy, but I guess many of us, my self included have been there This is the reason I now always set a bevel to blade before I start on any restoration work.

The scales are beautiful though, and I'm sure you will find a pretty blade that suits them.

Argh! Bummer. Love the ivory scales - do show us what ends up in them!

This is exactly why I quit buying razors that I "thought" I could save. I hate it that you made the scales before you learned the blade was unsalvageable. Now the hard part if finding a blade that suites the scales. I know it's a "lesson learned", but it sucks none the less...

I think you did OK just with the scales. Go price Ivory scales, you'll see what I mean.

I’m in the middle of buying everything necessary to make my own scales. Seeing what you have produced has inspired me again. If mine come out half that nice, I’ll be thrilled.
