    Default Scissors

Hey gents - I know it's a bit off topic, but the wife challenged me to sharpen the scissors we use to cut the kids hair.

Think in terms of Naniwas if you have any suggestions.

Thanks gents! I don't dare hear the "what good are all your stones" speech if I can't nail this .

Sharpen the bevels and just deburr the back, getting higher than 5k probably will be an overkill.

I once watched a video of a guy using naniwas to sharpen hairdresser scissors.

    David,

Scissors are a whole different can o worms. Take a set apart and hold one blade vertical to see what I mean. Think in terms of a Kamisori with enough pressure to get the edge flat on a stone.

    Have fun.

Kind of funny how straights have so changed my focus. I asked my wife if the scissors were any good. As she exclaimed their fame, I handled them looking for either a Solingen or Sheffield stamp - none - must be junk lol!

Anyway - I gave it a go. I will not be able to tell how effective I was until tomorrow. I will say that I scratched up the things quite nicely thank you lol. But if my arm is any indication - I did ok!!

    Thanks for your help gents.

I treat scissors as two knives. If possible take them apart and treat each half as the chisel grind that it is.

I'd start with 220 grit and work up to 800/1000 grit. Try cutting some printer paper with them when you finish and compare how that feels with how it feels doing the same thing with your sharpest knives.

I've sharpened 3 or 4 pair of hair cutter's, just follow the original bevel and go with your 4k stone and you should be fine, we all cut our own hair in our house, so the sissors and hair clippers have to work.

    YMMV tinkersd
