    I used to hone in running water however the older I get I can't keep up with the water anymore and my legs just hurt too much.

    Someone posted the idea of dipping the blade into water every so many strokes. It works for me on most hones and it can dilute the slurry at a rate that I like.
    But, Make sure the water container is large enough to do so without chance of striking the edge of the blade!
