Thread: Nubatama Ume/ JNS 1k

I'm not going to get into the match about if these are the same or not. Don't care. I personally have the one branded the Nubatama Ume 1k (medium) from CKTG. It was a gift to me. I have a Chosera 1k. I cannot get this Nubatama Ume to cut a bevel very well at all. Seems to be a very slow cutting stone. Precise and solid, but slow. I got a bevel faster on lapping film! Perhaps someone can provide some insight as to why? What I can do? Their experiences with these stones?

I'll preface this by saying that I have never tried to set a bevel with JNat (or any natural for that matter).

The question that springs to my mind is - did you use slurry and refresh it regularly?

Apparently, from what I understand, this is the way to get a JNat to cut faster.

The medium is quite fast. Are you sure it isn't the hard? The hard is quite slow unless you use pressure, not the pressure you use with a razor.

those are synthetic stones

My JNS 1K is definitely a soaker, I soak it for 30 minutes before I use it.

I haven't had any issues as far as it not cutting, I do use it with medium slurry to start.

mine lives in a bucket along with the 3k and 6k JNS.

Yes, a definate soaker for sure. I'll try with more slurry and see what happens. According to the CKTG site and comparing pictures it is the medium, yes. Also, that's what the person purchased, so I can assume it is correct. I've given it two good lappings too. I want to really love the stone as I've heard nothing but good about them.

those are soakers right? did you give it a good soak before use?
