Thanked: 0Good stone holders
I just bought a set of the double sided Nortons (the 220/1000 and the 4000/8000) and DMT DC8 for lapping. I would like to know what you would all recommend as far as a high-quality, durable, hone holder goes. I am particularly interested in the one that gssixgun uses in his videos, but am open to anything; I just want something that will last and work really well.

I use the same that Glen does. I got them from Amazon if my memory serves.
I believe that it was this one: Amazon.com: Steelex D1091 Sharpening Stone Holder: Home Improvement
I like them as they hold a wide variety of my stones.

I have two of those, one for the DMT and the other for the hone. They work great and as stated by deighaingeal they fit different size hones.

The steelex gets my vote as well. Two of them meets all my needs.

Thanked: 4942The Steelex work very well, but I normally just use the plastic carton that holds the Norton 4K/8K combo when honing with it.
Have fun.

For my Norton, I use the plastic thing it came with. I have my Chosera 1k in a holder like the one linked. I got it at Woodcraft, I think it was $10.

I have a shapton which is very over engineered and expensive however it's one of those things you can't see yourself ever buying but once you do you wonder how you got along without it.

Thanked: 0Thanks, everyone, for all of the input. I think I'm going to get 1 of the Steelex holders for now, and see how I like it. And you're right, thebigspender, I don't see myself getting a Shapton holder anytime soon

Thanked: 2I had the DMT holder and the feet were always uneven, it slid around, and was generally a pain to deal with.
I got the shapton holder and haven't regretted it one bit. It stays put, it's flat, it keeps the stone where it needs to be without me worrying about it. Some of the best money I've spent when it comes to honing.

Thanked: 67Is there any need for stone holders? I just put the stone on a tea-towel and it doesn't move around any.
