I have tried a couple of the Shapton's. I still have a Shapton 12K. I like the finish that the Coticule or Escher gives better, but there is nothing bad about this stone. I do like the Shapton Pro's better. I have not tried their lower grits or the 30K Shapton. I've also messed around with the Chinese 12K, a Tam, Slate, a Kitayama and several others. This has always been one of the more fun areas of straight razors. Every stone and every razor have their own personality. There is some degree of consistency which I believe comes more from individual confidence, but I have not seen yet where the same equipment or razor responds the same across the board.

That's encouraging. I'd like to try both glass and pro series once the cash becomes more readily available.

I found that half of a broken lithide hone did a great job - makes me glad I didn't throw the pieces away!
